Program Eligibility & Auditions

Jewish string students entering grades 7 through 12 in Fall 2026 are eligible to apply.

Submit a video of two contrasting pieces, a letter of recommendation from your teacher, and a short essay on how you incorporate your Judaism into your artistry.

We’re designed for students committed to musical excellence with prior orchestra or chamber experience. Be prepared for intensive rehearsals and challenging repertoire.

Cost & Scholarships

All students will receive a full scholarship including room and board. There is no tuition cost.

Travel to/from Nashville and any fees for transporting instruments.

Program Details

July 26–August 2, 2026 at Congregation Sherith Israel (Nashville, TN). Students stay at a nearby hotel; all activities occur at the synagogue.

Daily rehearsals, sectionals, coaching, practice time, shared meals, optional prayer services, Shabbat celebration, text study on music and Judaism, social activities, and three public performances.

Repertoire by Jewish composers who embraced their Jewish identity in their creative voice.

Three: two community performances (e.g., senior centers or preschools) and a final gala concert on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Congregation Sherith Israel.

Jewish Life & Observance

No. Orchestra Tikvah is open to all Jewish students regardless of synagogue affiliation or communal involvement.

Yes. All meals will be provided and will accommodate kosher dietary needs.

Daily services (Shacharit, Mincha, Maariv) are optional. All students participate in Shabbat celebrations (Kabbalat Shabbat, meals, Havdalah) as core community experiences.

All are welcome. The program helps students explore and strengthen their Jewish identity through music, community, and shared experiences.

Logistics

At a hotel down the street from Congregation Sherith Israel. All program activities are at the synagogue.

Yes. Students are supervised by our artistic director, executive director, and counselors throughout the program.

Yes. All three concerts are open to the public. We especially encourage families to attend the gala concert on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
